Defining a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Roadmap (continued)

We are in the most transformational times K-12 education has seen in decades.  At the heart of this transformation is philosophically changing the way we are delivering instruction.  It is time we start incorporating tools kids use every day in their personal lives into the classroom.  It’s not about the device kids are using, it’s about changing instruction such that their devices enable learning to occur in manner they are growing up with.   As district and state leaders, we must not miss this opportunity. Using their personal technologies will allow students to demonstrate their mastery and depth of understanding of the curriculum in manners never imagined with standardized tests. Allowing students to use the tools they use to live in a nurturing learning atmosphere will materially improve their preparation for their future. What can we do, not only as technology leaders, but district leaders to help in this philosophical change? You can lead or follow so which path will you take in the transformation?”

Attendees of the three hour session will:

  • Develop a BYOD justification document

  • Identify barriers, roadblocks and political constraints

  • Learn what areas of focus are necessary when considering a BYOD roadmap

  • Define the functional departments associated with areas of focus

  • Develop decision matrix for each functional area in preparation for roll-out strategy

  • Identify high level “Unknowns”

  • Discuss roll-out strategies

  • Define individualized “Draft” roll-out strategies
