Does having regular access to a variety of technological tools have the potential to deepen learning and increase student achievement? Can your District afford a new smartphone, tablet, notebook, etc. for each teacher, administrator and student in your system?  What are ways that an individuals’ personal technology can be leveraged for the benefit of the system as well as the individual?

An information technology firm,  ITIC,  studied businesses of all sizes and found that over 60% of them allow some form of BYOD, or letting employees “Bring Your Own Device” to the workplace. Despite these high numbers, only 30% of BYOD-allowing companies actually have a policy in place to provide guidelines about the use of personal technology in the office. Some IT specialists view this as a disaster waiting to happen, while others are embracing the challenges involved.  Where do our schools currently stand in comparison?  What are ways we can wade into this together, and where is the space for innovation?
