Jan Lindsey currently is the Deputy Director for the Division of State and Federal Education Policy, a division responsible for managing federal and state funds awarded to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for school improvement and student success, including initiatives to develop and replicated innovative comprehensive school reform models such as the Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (T-STEM) program.  Previously, she was Senior Director of the Division for Dropout Prevention and College and Career Readiness Initiatives at TEA, a division responsible for the development and management of a portfolio of secondary school initiatives designed to prevent students from dropping out and prepare them for postsecondary success. These initiatives, supported by a biennial budget of over $100 million, include such reform models as T-STEM Academies, Early College High Schools, the Dropout Recovery Pilot, and Ninth Grade Transition and Intervention.  In addition, she serves as the agency representative to the Texas High School Project, recently renamed Educate Texas, a unique public-private alliance of funders committing over $337 million in resources to improving the postsecondary readiness of low-income students.   She is also responsible for overseeing the agency’s High School Allotment, Adult Basic Education, federal Title IIB, and the Communities in Schools State Office programs.  She previously served as a policy manager for the Texas Workforce Commission and as a policy analyst for both the Texas Youth Commission and the Texas Governor’s Office.  She taught high school social studies for eight years while serving as department chair and campus Gifted and Talented Coordinator.  She received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Masters of Public Affairs both from the University of Texas at Austin.
